San Marcos under winter storm warning

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning, which is in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The NWS said patchy light rain and drizzle could change over to light freezing rain in areas of the Hill Country where temperatures fall below 32 degrees. Rainfall amounts will range from a trace to a few hundredths of an inch. Light accumulations of ice are expected this evening mainly on elevated surfaces such a trees and rooftops.
The low for this evening is forecast at 29 degrees, with occasional freezing rain after midnight.
The NWS said the a 20-percent chance of freezing rain Wednesday morning also is in the forecast. However, the temperature should warm up to 55 degrees later in the day.
Texas State University officials are asking students, faculty and staff to be alert for possible cancellations Wednesday. As of 5 p.m., the university was operating as normal.
Depending on how the weather progresses, according to the university web site, cancellations could be announced during Wednesday’s early hours. Cancellations will be sent by email to students, faculty and staff, and recorded on the university’s recorded news bulletin at (512) 245-2424.
Are local schools (elementary, high school, etc.) still open for tomorrow? or are they going to start late, like in other hill country counties?
