San Marcos CISD ’sweeps’ for dropouts

San Marcos CISD administrators, professionals and paraprofessionals are going out in teams to visit with student drop-outs in their homes. They offer a variety of options for the students to complete their high school diploma work.



SMCISD seeks matches for RIF grant

San Marcos CISD will recieve a federal grant, worth in the neighborhood of $25,000, to help boost the reading performance of children in six SMCISD schools. The six schools will share the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) grant monies to provide books for ownership.



Firefighters honored for Pink Heals tour

San Marcos Professional Firefighters Association (SMPFFA) will welcome the Pink Heals Tour as the big, pink fire truck travels across the country raising awareness and funds to combat breast cancer. Mayor Pro Tem Pam Couch presented a proclamation to San Marcos firefighters in honor of the tour.



City seeking volunteers for KZOS task force

“KZOS” are the call letters for the new low power FM radio station for the city of San Marcos. The station is being primarily established for emergency communications with the public. The City Council is now seeking seven volunteers for a task force to advise the city on government programming for the new radio station.



LaFont wins super stocks

Clint LaFont of Volente is the winner of the ASA A-Line Super Stock standings at Thunderhill Raceway after the final run in that series last weekend.



Run with Moe: Fast times at Country Roads 10K

Earlier this month, local runners had a chance to run the Country Roads 10K out at Country Estates subdivision. It was a wet day with intermittent rain showers through portions of the race.



Curry ties for SLC soccer honor

The Southland Conference has named Texas State soccer player Britney Curry the co-offensive Player of the Week after matching the school’s career record in goals.

UFL to incorporate as city seeks game plan

The Unicycle Football League (UFL), San Marcos’ home-grown sport, has completed incorporation paper work as the city’s parks advisory board considers finding a permanent location for the league’s games.



Council passes second reading for Purgatory project

The San Marcos City Council approved a second reading for a last-minute extension on a zoning change request for the developers of the proposed Purgatory Creek Apartment complex.
