Defense, George carry Bobcats past SFA

The Texas State defense shut down Stephen F. Austin’s prolific offense, while Texas State quarterback Bradley George threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns Saturday afternoon, leading the Bobcats to an unquestionable 28-7 win against Stephen F. Austin at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats, SFA, McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana now are in a four-way tie for first place in the Southland Conference.

Rebels fall, face losing season

The Hays Rebels not only missed their chance to win District 17-4A Friday night, but they also clinched their first regular season with a losing record since 1985. The Rebels lost, 27-21, in overtime at Del Valle, which clinched its first district championship since 1967.



Lehman set back, Rattlers lose big

Lehman lost Friday night at home to Lockhart, leaving its high school football playoff hopes dicey. Meanwhile, San Marcos took a terrible beating in Boerne.



Bobcats face first of tough string

Texas State faces a tough run of four games to end the football season, none tougher than Saturday’s homecoming meeting with Stephen F. Austin, which ranks in the top 15 nationally behind gun-slinging quarterback Jeremy Moses.



Hays High School recognized for water conservation

The pump at Hays High School was named 2009 “Permittee of the Year” by the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BS/EACD) for significant efforts to reduce water use.



CTMC to give Diabetes Dialogue Day

The month of November is American Diabetes Month and Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), 1301 Wonder World Drive, is marking it by presenting its first Diabetes Dialogue Day.



Tim O’Brien to give reading at Alkek

Prize-winning author Tim O’Brien will give a reading and book signing at Texas State’s Alkek Library next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

SMHS counselor surprised with award

San Marcos High School counselor Anthony A.M. Pearson had quite a surprise last Friday at work. Four United States Marine Corps officers visited him at the school, calling Pearson out to present him with the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ Quality Citizen Recognition Award for his ongoing efforts to recruit America’s youth into the corps.
