Mee’s ‘Big Love’ deals with big issues

Texas State’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present Charles Mee’s “Big Love” Oct. 6-11 on the main stage of the Theatre Center on the campus.
Mee’s play is a modern look at the Aeschylus tragedy “The Suppliant Women,” a story dealing with love, forced marriage and the battle of the sexes. The play is hardy romantic comedy, though. It is a drama that explores the dynamics of power in a relationship.
Directed by Caleb Straus, the play centers around 50 escaping brides who do not wish to be forced into marriage. When the grooms come looking for them, the women, wishing the freedom to make up their own minds, devise a very harrowing and interesting plan.
Admission to the play is $10 for the general public and $7 for students with ID. The performances from Oct. 6-10 will be held at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee will run on Oct. 11.
