Jack C. Hays movie gets one more free screening

Popular demand to see “Captain Jack,” the film documenting the life of Jack C. Hays done by the Hays County Historical Commission, has led to a second screening of the movie on Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. at Dripping Springs City Hall, 511 Mercer Street.
The film chronicles the life of Jack C Hays, his meeting with Sam Houston and his recruiting of Texas Rangers. He surveys land, patrols south Texas, meets his future wife Susan Calvert, fights Comanche Indians on Walker’s Creek, becomes the first sheriff of San Francisco and founds the city of Oakland, CA, in the action packed movie.
The project was directed by Richard Kidd and produced by Kate Johnson. The Celtaire String Band and Gillette Brothers supplied the film’s music.
Support for the project came from Hays County citizens, businesses, companies and the Hays County Commissioners.
This is the last of the scheduled free screenings of the film.
