Kids on bikes carrying balloons and riding down Hopkins Street was part of the fun at the San Marcos Veterans’ Day Parade Saturday morning.
STAFF REPORT
The parade included more than 75 entries. The San Marcos Kiwanis Club helped youngsters decorate their bikes with free flags and streamers so that they could be part of the Kiwanis Club’s Kids Bicycle Brigade in the parade. Leading the parade will be grand marshal George Kumpe, who earned two purple hearts while serving in the army in Vietnam. For the second year in a row, a community-wide call for nominations of local veterans for grand marshall resulted in the nomination of ten men and one woman with impressive military and community service records. A nonpartisan committee selected Kumpe after reviewing the nominations. Dave North arranges a spot on a blanket for his daughter, Samantha. There was a red, white and blue scene in front of the Hays County Courthouse as a marching band lined up to play.

A hearty thank you to all veterans who served our country.
I’ll second that!
Thank You God for our veterans, and God Bless America
