SMHS student places in poster contest

Marketa Kacenova, a senior at San Marcos High School (SMHS),  took third place honors in the Grades 9-12 division of the statewide Texas Alliance for Geographic Education Poster Contest.  The theme for this year’s contest was, “Europe Beyond Borders: Exploring the Physical and Cultural Landscape.”

Kacenova is the daughter of Hanka and Michael Kacemova in Prague, Czech Republic. Her host parents in the United States are Delbert and Tommy Maywald in San Marcos.

SMHS teacher Meg DeBrock is a former statewide winner of the Texas Alliance geography poster contest.

The Texas Alliance for Geographic Education, established in 1986, was initiated to strengthen geographic education in Texas in response to the increasing globalization of society.
