STAFF REPORT

Valdis Jonsdottir’s best finish during her freshman year on the Texas State women’s golf team was a tenth-place showing in the Texas State Challenge at Onion Creek in November.

But she tore up golf courses all over her native Iceland during the summer, enough to be named Iceland’s Golfer of the Year both by the Icelandic Golf Association and Kylfingur News.

Jonsdottir won the Icelandic Masters Championship during the summer, won two Icelandic tour events and placed 11th at the European Masters in Slovenia. Jonsdottir retains a spot on the Icelandic National team and holds the best handicap of all female golfers in Iceland.

The Texas State freshman finished her inaugural fall season on the team with a 76.0 stroke average.

The Texas State women’s golf team will begin the spring season Feb. 14-16 at the University of Miami Invitational.
