San Marcos CISD celebrates its volunteers

It’s the 49th anniversary of the Peace Corps this month, and the celebration brought up some fascinating stories of San Marcos CISD volunteers, which they are sharing with the students.



Peace Corps workers will lecture on Turkemenistan

A former San Marcos library worker and his wife have returned home after a two-year stint with the Peace Corps in Turkmenistan. They will give a talk on their experiences in that country at the San Marcos Public Library on March 16.



Green Showcase promises something for everyone

The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce’s first ever Green Living Showcase will present earth-friendly alternatives for businesses and residents on March 20. And if you ever wanted to know the identity of Mr. Smartyplants, you’ll have to go to see him. Or her.



ACC Mobile Go Center slated at library

The ACC Mobile Go Center will be at the San Marcos Public Library to assist questions about college and to help future students with the often intimidating application process.



Rio Vista project breaks ground

San Marcos officials broke ground on Rio Vista Terrace improvements with ten good shovels on March 6. The event was the official start of a $9.3 million project that will provide new waterlines, wastewater lines, storm drains, sidewalk, curbs, gutters and streets to the neighborhood in the next two years.



Pets of the week at the San Marcos shelter

The San Marcos animal shelter has charming animal companions just waiting for good homes. Some of the animals are supported by the Guardian Angel Program.



Competition spotlights quality for local company

Employees at Philips/Wide Light recently had a competition that sported colorful team names and a quest for quality. The San Marcos City Council recently recognized company employees.
