An unexpected visit turned a pep rally last Friday at San Marcos Academy into a “pop” rally as SMA seventh grader Aaron Warren’s dad showed up to visit him.



Wounded Warriors event set for Skydive San Marcos

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Skydive San Marcos, other law enforcement agencies and the Wounded Warrior Project will host the Leap Of Heroes at Skydive San Marcos Friday at 11 a.m.

San Marcos Academy reinstitutes JV football

For the first time since 2007, San Marcos Academy (SMA) is fielding a junior varsity (JV) football team, thanks to increased enrollment and athletic participation. The SMA JV Bears took the field against the Lockhart Lions in a scrimmage last week.



Pet Fest slated for September 25

Prevent a Litter (PALS) of Central Texas will hold its eighth annual Pet Fest on Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at San Marcos Plaza Park, 401 East Hopkins Street. The theme for the festival is “PALS Cares – we’re helping people fix their pets.”



San Marcos River Reggae Fest promises music and more

Reggae fans take heed, the San Marcos River Reggae Fest will take place at San Marcos Plaza Park on Sept. 6. It is hosted by T&A Events with appearances by the Original Wailers, The Movement, Full Service, Ashes of Babylon, and many, many more.



SMHS Diamond Line team starts year with success

The San Marcos High School Diamond Line Dancers will have even more finesse to show spectators during the Rattler football half-time shows this year, thanks to hard work at camps this summer. The dancers garnered awards and experience at the camps.



Tom Grimes to give reading at Texas State

On Sept. 15, at 3:30 p.m., the Wittliff Collections on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library will host a reading and book signing with Tom Grimes. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.



San Marcos Public Library celebrates 150,000th book

The Encyclopedia of Texas Seashells, published by Texas A&M Press, has the honor of being the 150,000th book attained by the San Marcos Public Library.



San Marcos CISD trustee recovering after accident

San Marcos CISD trustee Jesse Ponce, Jr. was injured in a bicycling accident shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday. Ponce said an automobile clipped his back tire and drove off. The trustee was treated for head lacerations and a broken tail bone at Brackenridge Hospital.
