Kyle opens new public works building

Kyle city officials dedicated a $2.6 million public works building last week. The city’s public works department has grown from six to 31 employees in the last four years, maintaining more than 1,800 miles of roadway and 215 miles of water pipeline.



Kyle Mayor Johnson to hold ‘budget talk’ with citizens

Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson has announced a town hall meeting for the evening of Aug. 4 at Kyle City Hall to discuss issues pertaining to the Fiscal Year 2011 city budget. Johnson said she wants to involve citizens in the budgeting process.



Buda receiving free service from HCSO

After opting out of an agreement for a dedicated patrol from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office as of April, Buda still is receiving dedicated police service until the city can launch its own police force. The city hopes to initiate the force in October.



Councilmember Huebner to hold Kyle town hall meeting

Kyle City Councilmember Russ Huebner, who represents the east side of the city, will hold a town hall meeting Thursday at Seton Medical Center Hays. The meeting is open to all Kyle residents.



Texas Supreme Court declines to hear case against US Foodservice

The Texas Supreme Court announced last week that it would refuse to hear a request filed by opponents of a US Foodservice distribution facility east of Buda, clearing the way for construction of the facility.



County commissioners honor Texas Lehigh

Hays County commissioners recently issued a procolamation honoring Texas Lehigh Cement Company in Buda for its environmental consciousness in the production of cement.



Kyle council taking requests for public funding

With $30,000 in the budget for community service groups, the Kyle City Council is taking applications for allocations. The requests are due in the city secretary’s office on July 1.



Kyle council approves new library

After more than three years of struggle to determine a budget and a location, the Kyle City Council unanimously approved moving forward with the construction of a new library during its meeting this week.



Plum Creek project wins award

The Plum Creek Preserve and Nature Trail in Kyle is still a few months away from development, but Envision Central Texas has declared the 350-acre project the winner of its 2010 Environmental Stewardship Award for Public Policy and Planning.



Kyle to rededicate historic city hall

The old Kyle City Hall on the town square has been brought back to life by more than $750,000 in improvements. The city will rededicate the venerable structure Saturday afternoon.
