City announces road work for week

The City of San Marcos has announced road projects that will affect traffic in town for the next week. Among the streets involved in the projects are Hopkins Street, Sessom Drive, Craddock Avenue and Wonder World Drive.



City growth adds costs to smart metering project

The San Marcos City Council voted to approve the payment of more than $500,000 last month for its smart metering initiative, but not before a couple councilmembers asked in detail why the payment was necessary.



Rio Vista project breaks ground

San Marcos officials broke ground on Rio Vista Terrace improvements with ten good shovels on March 6. The event was the official start of a $9.3 million project that will provide new waterlines, wastewater lines, storm drains, sidewalk, curbs, gutters and streets to the neighborhood in the next two years.



City outbids private buyer for low-income home

The San Marcos City Council agreed last week to use a federal program to buy two homes for availability to low-income buyers. In one case, the city paid $4,200 more than the asking price, outbidding a private buyer.



City moves Sessom work up to this week

Saying the spring break is the perfect time to deal with the intersection of Sessom Drive and LBJ Drive, city officials moved drainage and pavement work on the intersection up to this week.



P&Z to bring back Buie question in April

Still waiting on a geological report by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission has postponed consideration of a mixed-use plan for the Buie tract until April.



Villalpando added to census staff

New San Marcos Census Outreach Coordinator Marge Villalpando hopes to access many residents who may be missed or confused by the 2010 Census.



San Marcos council approves new complaint process

The San Marcos City Council approved revisions to the city’s complaint process saying complaints against the city can’t be filed within 60 says of early voting for a city election. San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz said the process could otherwise be used as a political tool.



Second crack yields $610K apartment incentive

San Marcos Councilmember Chris Jones decided to vote Tuesday after his February abstention deadlocked a $610,000 incentive package for an apartment complex on the edge of downtown. Jones voted for the incentives, which passed by a 4-3 vote.



Springtown Mall proposal remains in negotiations

The amounts and the recipients for a proposed Springtown Mall incentive from the city have changed, but San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz said the city would no longer be out money up front and the goal remains of rescuing Springtown from blight.
