The San Marcos City Council recently honored the San Marcos High School tennis team, which won the District 17-4A spring championship.

City proclaims ‘Exercise is Medicine’ month

The San Marcos City Council recognized HH Fitness as a standard bearer for health and fitness for Exercise is Medicine Month.



Captain Paul W. Peña honored at tree dedication

Captain Paul Peña, an alumnus of San Marcos Baptist Academy who was killed in action in Afghanistan, recently was honored with a tree dedication ceremony on the campus. More recognition to Peña came in the form of a dedicated award and a scholarship fund in his name.



San Marcos to celebrate National Train Day

When Leland Stanford drove that golden spike in the rails in 1869, he ceremonially opened up the country to transcontinental travel. San Marcos is observing National Train Day, which honors the driving of the spike Saturday with a special program at the San Marcos Station. The public is invited to attend.



San Marcos Area League of Women Voters honored by city

The City of San Marcos honored the San Marcos League of Women voters for their leadership and service and in celebration of the league’s 90th anniversary. The San Marcos League of Women voters recently hosted the statewide convention at the City of San Marcos Conference Center.



CASA receives bar association grant

The Texas Bar Association recently awarded a grant to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas. The grant is intended for further training of future and current volunteers.



City honors public service workers

Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week has been a nationwide event honoring the men and women who serve the country as federal, state, county and local government employees. Recently, San Marcos officials honored their workers with proclamations.



SMBA to hold dedication ceremony for Peña

San Marcos Baptist Academy (SMBA) will hold a ceremony Saturday at 1 p.m., dedicating a tree on the SMBA campus in honor of Captain Paul W. Peña, a 2000 graduate who was killed in action in January.



Marshall Shredding honored by city

The annual “Shred Day,” which allows San Marcos residents to safely dispose of outdated personal papers, was aided by the provision of free shredding equipment from Marshall Shredding of San Antonio. San Marcos officials honored Marshall’s contribution to the day.
