The Weekend: A last breath of the summer

Though school already is back in session, the Labor Day weekend is the traditional end of summer. This year’s version includes the usual high school football games, live musical performances and festivals. And, of course, there’s more to come on Monday.



Hamilton to read at Alkek Library, Katherine Anne Porter House

Saskia Hamilton, a writer and authority on poet Robert Lowell, will give readings later this month at the Alkek Library on the Texas State campus and at the Katherine Anne Porter House in Kyle.

LBJ Museum extends exhibit after successful ’60s night

Due to the success of “60’s Night” at the LBJ Museum of San Marcos earlier this month, the 1960’s exhibit has been extended through Sept. 4.

Texas State retired faculty, staff to have fall social at Dick’s Classic Cars

The Texas State Retired Faculty and Staff Association (RFSA) will have its third annual fall social at Dick’s Classic Car Museum, 120 Stagecoach Trail, on Sept. 24 starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20.



Dance studio gets new name, new owners and offers new scholarship

The Pointe Dance Studio, 101 East Hopkins Street, has a new name, new owners and an intensified focus on serious ballet study. The studio’s new name is Central Texas Ballet Conservatory.
