City council approves Concho change

Against objections from a downtown parking advisory board, the San Marcos City Council recently approved an amended plan for the Concho Commons project that now calls for 39 residential units on the north edge of downtown.

Rose draws Democratic primary opponent

Four-term State Representative Patrick Rose (D-Dripping Springs) has drawn an opponent in the March primary. Andrew Backus of Driftwood, a long-time Rose opponent in matters of local groundwater management, filed his intention to run with the Texas Secretary of State on Dec. 15.



City steps up Census effort

The 1990 U.S. Census counted 34,733 residents in San Marcos, up less than 6,000 from ten years earlier (28,743), leaving many city officials and others to believe the city was under counted. The city now claims, by its own count, 51,222 residents. But another census is around the corner, and city officials don’t want to be caught short.

County to close on Dahlstrom easement

Hays County is close to finalizing an agreement prohibiting development on 2,275 acres of aquifer recharge land on Dahlstrom Ranch property near Buda, though county residents won’t soon unwrap 350 acres of the land proposed for public access.
