STAFF REPORT
KYLE - Police are looking for a woman suspected of robbing the IBC Bank in the H-E-B Plus! on Kyle Parkway Saturday afternoon.
The Kyle Police Department (KPD) is looking for a suspect described as a heavy-set, white female in her 40s wearing a ball cap, a long sleeve shirt with various designs and dark colored pants.
KPD secured physical evidence from the scene and obtained digital photographs of the suspect from surveillance videos.
At approximately 2:29 p.m. Saturday, KPD was dispatched to a report of a bank robbery at the IBC Bank at corner of FM 1626 and IH35 in Kyle. Upon arrival, officers met with bank personnel who said they had just been robbed.
According to bank officials, a white female with a ball cap approached a bank employee and asked for change. As the employee accommodated the request, the female handed the employee a note saying. “This is a robbery. Don’t look up.”
The suspect then advised the bank employee that she had a partner who was watching her.
The bank employee handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect, who left the bank and walked out into the parking lot.
KPD is investigating the possibility of this suspect being involved in other similar bank robberies in the central Texas area.
KPD is asking that anyone with information regarding the suspect to call Detective Larry Honeycutt at (512) 268-3232.

Buda moves ahead with new U.S. Foodservice facility

U.S. Foodservice, which provides food and related products to neighborhood restaurants, educational establishments, hospitals, hotels, government entities and other eating establishments are one step closer to finalizing a construction deal for its new distribution center in Buda. The company which initially looked at two locations in Hays County chose Buda in early May. Currently in the due diligence phase of the contract with the Buda Area Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Foodservice hope to begin construction by February 2009.
Head of Economic Development, Buda Area Chamber of Commerce, Warren Kettemann said the process takes time but hopes a deal will be made by January. “No exact dates, we’re in the process of securing the land at this time. We’re working with issues with the property owner. But we should close by January,” said Kettleman. “Needed improvement on roadways County Road 118 and Turnersville Road to support the company’s truck fleets is currently being discussed.”
The new facility, which will replace its Austin location, will be located at the northwest corner of the Sunfield Municipal Utility District. The reason for relocation is due to 114-percent capacity and inability to expand.
“The Austin center is landlocked and there is no room for expansion— presently well over 100 percent maxed of facility,” said Kettlemann. The 40-acre property would accommodate the company’s growth. “The current facility is at capacity and is not built for expansion. The Buda location fits well into our geographical service footprint,” said Kim Brown, Vice President of Communications and Corporate Responsibility for U.S. Foodservice.
Plans indicate hiring close to 245 employees initially, with an expansion of having over 400 employees within five years. Kettleman said some jobs would be available, but that many employees would be relocated and transferred from Austin. “I’m sure a vast majority of transfers will move to the Buda/Kyle area, but there’ll be new hires within the next 2-3 years.”
President of U.S Foodservice-Austin John Fowler said that the company looks forward to moving to the new location in early 2010 and being a valuable business partner with the Buda and Hays County communities.
U.S. Foodservice has over 70 locations nationwide with four broad line facilities in Texas.

Buda man to serve 60 years for burglaries
Posted on December 22, 2008 at 2:41 pm • Print This Page • Share
A man convicted by a Hays County jury of Burglary of Habitation this November finally received his sentence. After listening to victim testimony and reviewing his criminal record, Judge Charles Ramsay sentenced defendant Anthony Perez, age 44 of Buda, to 60 years in the Texas penitentiary.
Perez was accused of committing multiple burglaries in northern Hays County during 2006. The defendant typically would knock on doors in neighborhoods during weekdays in the early afternoon. If no one answered, he would kick in the door and go to the master bedroom to take jewelry.
An Austin Police officer pulled the defendant over on a routine traffic stop and located stolen property. A victim eye witness who was at home in Kyle when the defendant came into his house was able to identify Perez by his Austin booking photo. The jury found the defendant guilty after 45 minutes of deliberation. Judge Ramsay heard testimony last week from more victims including one who for a moment had the defendant at gunpoint. An investigator also testified that Perez had been to the Louisiana penitentiary twice before.
The District Court considered all the evidence presented to both the jury and the court before pronouncing sentence. Perez was accused of committing multiple burglaries throughout Travis and Hays Counties, and is currently serving a 35 year sentence from Travis County.

Hays County residents woke up this morning to dense fog blanketing most of the Hill Country, and a multitude of traffic accidents because of it.
“There was 15 accidents before 10:30 this morning,” said Mike Thiemen with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. “We were hit pretty hard.”
San Marcos was spared from any major fog related accidents though visibility was limited to roughly half a mile in the city this afternoon.
“We had two minor accidents with no injuries”, said Melissa Millecam, Director of Communications for the City of San Marcos. “We escaped with great luck.”
In Kyle authorities recorded 8 vehicle accidents. “Three of those are considered major,” said Jerry Hendrix with the City of Kyle. “Two of the major ones required medical assistance and the other blocked two lanes of traffic.”
There is currently no report on any local fatalities resulting from these accidents, though motorists are advised to use caution.
The National Weather Service issued a warning at 12:15 pm today for possible continued dense fog until tomorrow morning.
