The City of San Marcos has announced road projects that will affect traffic in town for the next week. Among the streets involved in the projects are Hopkins Street, Sessom Drive, Craddock Avenue and Wonder World Drive.

San Marcos officials have announced road and street projects affecting traffic in town next week, including several involving Hopkins Street and the downtown square. Wednesday, Feb. 3, will include numerous such projects through the east side of town for repairs on the Union Pacific Rail Road tracks.



Council in dilemma concerning SOB zoning

The San Marcos City Council is in the horns of a dilemma as it attempts to write an ordinance for zoning sexually oriented businesses (SOBs) within the city. Should the city zone specifically for SOBs, which, according to city officials, is likely to doom that part of town to blight and high crime? Or should the city follow the more standard municipal practice of allowing SOBs in areas zones for industry, which would open them to a section of town that stands to benefit from about $175 million in public investment and includes some of the city’s heaviest employers?



Council approves budget increase for Hunter Road

San Marcos City Councilmembers opted Tuesday to spend $532,000 more than they budgeted to widen a 0.79-mile stretch of Hunter Road between Wonder World Drive and Bishop Street, though city officials say anticipated savings on the Wonder World Drive extension will cover the difference.



Downed pole knocks out downtown power

City emergency crews restored power to downtown San Marcos Tuesday night after the central portion of the city was without electricity for about 45 minutes. City officials said a car struck an electric pole, pitching the city into darkness, shutting down businesses and causing hazards on the streets.
