Three San Marcos schools recognized for performance

The Division of NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Program Coordination at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently selected three San Marcos CISD elementary campuses for distinguished academic performance. Bowie, Crockett and De Zavala Elementary Schools each received the honor.



SMEF ‘Surprize Patrol’ awards grants

The San Marcos Education Foundation (SMEF) recently played “Math and Science” Santa to some grateful educators in San Marcos CISD.



Bowie, SMHS recognized by NCEA

Bowie Elementary School Principal Karen McGowen and San Marcos High School (SMHS) Principal Michelle Darling learned late last week that their campuses have been recognized by the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA). The awards are part of the 2009 Just for the Kids Campaign for Higher Performing Schools in Texas.



Espinoza named Student of the Month

Bowie Elementary School’s Ashley Espinoza was named the Superintendent’s Student of the Month by San Marcos CISSD Superintendent Patty Shafer, who met with the student on Dec. 7 to explain the honor and the responsibilities that come with it.



Happy Thanksgiving!

When Bowie Elementary School completed its Great Turkey Race for the Hays County Food Bank, the school’s students had raised $628 to give Thanksgiving meals to families in Hays County. It is enough to feed 31 families for Turkey Day.



San Marcos CISD receives TEA recognition

San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) was given a total of fifteen Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPAs) in the updated state accountablility reports, released on Nov. 4 by the Texas Education Agency (TEA.) The district received 12 GPAs in 2008 and six in 2007.

Hernandez Elementary School’s Dad’Zone is a program that allows fathers to volunteer in the school and spend extra time with their children during the day.



SMCISD seeks matches for RIF grant

San Marcos CISD will recieve a federal grant, worth in the neighborhood of $25,000, to help boost the reading performance of children in six SMCISD schools. The six schools will share the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) grant monies to provide books for ownership.



The beat goes on at San Marcos CISD

Last week, the staff of San Marcos CISD marched to the beat of a different drummer during the school district’s annual Convocation ceremony to begin the new school year.
