Bowie Elementary School Principal Karen McGowen and San Marcos High School (SMHS) Principal Michelle Darling learned late last week that their campuses have been recognized by the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA). When Bowie Elementary School completed its Great Turkey Race for the Hays County Food Bank, the school’s students had raised $628 to give Thanksgiving meals to families in Hays County. It is enough to feed 31 families for Turkey Day.
San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) was given a total of fifteen Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPAs) in the updated state accountablility reports, released on Nov. 4 by the Texas Education Agency (TEA.) The district received 12 GPAs in 2008 and six in 2007.
Hernandez Elementary School’s Dad’Zone is a program that allows fathers to volunteer in the school and spend extra time with their children during the day.
San Marcos CISD will recieve a federal grant, worth in the neighborhood of $25,000, to help boost the reading performance of children in six SMCISD schools. The six schools will share the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) grant monies to provide books for ownership.
