Hays County could lose CAMPO board seat

Hays County could lose a seat on the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), now that the regional planning board has agreed to include Bastrop and Caldwell Counties.



Rose trounces Democratic primary challenger

Patrick Rose took 79.7 percent of the vote against challenger Andrew Backus in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for his fifth straight nomination for his state representative seat.



ACC petition drive soon to start in San Marcos

Organizers of an initiative to place San Marcos CISD in the Austin Community College District will soon announce a petition drive with hopes of putting the matter on the November ballot. About 2,000 voters within San Marcos CISD would have to sign the petition by April 9.



Rose endorses Barton in county judge primary

State Representative Patrick Rose (D-Dripping Springs) said Saturday that he is endorsing Hays County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jeff Barton (D-Kyle) in a party primary race against incumbent Hays County Judge Liz Sumter (D-Wimberley). Rose said Barton “is more able to unite the (commissioners) court,” the divisions of which precipitated the primary struggle.



Rose campaigns against primary challenge

When Patrick Rose first ran for the state legislature in 2002, he was 23, not long out of Princeton and unsure if he would win the office, let alone how long he would keep it. Today, Rose (D-Dripping Springs), 31, is a four-term representative who says that to “get anything done” in the legislature “you need seniority, and I would like to stay in this office for the next six, eight, 10, 12 years.”



San Marcian runs for state school board

San Marcos resident and Texas State professor Rebecca Bell-Metereau said the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) is missing the point about education, so she’s running for a seat on the board.



Mayor proclaims CASA month

San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz recently proclaimed March as “CASA Month” in the city. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a volunteer organization advocating for abused and neglected chilldren who have become a part of the court system.



Local Census office opening in San Antonio

At 2 p.m Tuesday, the United State Census Bureau will formally open the Local Census Office (LCO), CO 3055, in San Antonio. The office will serve Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, northern Bexar and Comal Counties.



Rose draws Democratic primary opponent

Four-term State Representative Patrick Rose (D-Dripping Springs) has drawn an opponent in the March primary. Andrew Backus of Driftwood, a long-time Rose opponent in matters of local groundwater management, filed his intention to run with the Texas Secretary of State on Dec. 15.



CASA overwhelmed by donors

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CSAS) of Central Texas were pleasantly surprised at the response they received when they asked local organizations to gather toys for abused and neglected children in Hays, Caldwell, Comal and Guadalupe Counties.
