Hays County grows 6.6 percent in 2008

New figures from the Texas State Data Center released this week show that Hays County has topped 150,000 residents after starting the young century with fewer than 100,000.

Kyle City Councilmember Lucy Johnson announced Monday morning that she is running for mayor now that Kyle Mayor Mike Gonzalez is running for Hays County Commissioner.



Annual 9-1-1 awards have ceremony

The 4th Annual Capital Area Council of Governments will recognize the winners of their Annual 9-1-1 Calendar Contest in a ceremony at the Capitol on Sept. 11. The award recipient are from area elementary schools.

The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) will hold its Land Revitalization and Brownfield Redevelopment Workshop on June 17.



County joins ‘Big Push’ to improve air quality

The Hays County Commissioners Court passed a resolution supporting “The Big Push,” a regional initiative building on voluntary efforts already in place to help meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ambient air guidelines. Additionally, the county has joined the Clean Air Force of Central Texas (CAFCT) as a clean air partner.



Local waste management summit scheduled

The Construction and Demolition Waste Management Summit will be at the Austin Convention Center on May 6.



County works up ‘greenprint’ map

Hays County officials are working on a map that will identify conservation needs and the intensity of such needs in specific areas.
