City offers rebates to residents for energy efficiency

The City of San Marcos has two new energy efficiency rebate programs offered by the Public Services Department.



City clears well of E. coli

San Marcos water officials have cleared a city well of E. coli. The well will be back in operation Wednesday. City officials found E. coli in the well on Feb. 26 and shut the well down.



Sessom Drive improvements to begin Thursday

Motorists be warned, the next few months will see Sessoms Drive in various states of repair. The reward for all the hassle figures to be an improved driving and walking experience.



Secrest honored by River Foundation

Jo Secrest, public services program coordinator for the City of San Marcos, was recently honored by the San Marcos River Foundation for her exceptional work on the Household Hazardous Waste Collections for San Marcos and Hays County.



City expands efficiency rebate programs

San Marcos officials plan to step up their water and electricity conservation efforts this year by giving more appliances and money to qualifying residents willing to swap out their less-efficient devices. In 2010, for the first time, the city will offer year-long electric appliance rebate and replacement programs.



City schedules orientation and reception

The city of San Marcos has scheduled an orientation for Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the San Marcos Conference Center for the dozens of citizens appointed to serve on city boards and commissions. A reception will follow the session at 5:30 p.m.



New Walker’s Gallery exhibit to open Saturday

The opening reception for the “Hands-on” exhibit at the Walker’s Gallery will take place at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 East Hopkins Street, from 5-7:30 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular Activity Center hours.



Hazardous waste disposal day scheduled

A hazardous waste and pharmaceutical collection is scheduled for Jan. 23 from 8 a.m. until noon at the San Marcos city traffic yard, 630 East Hopkins Street. The service is sponsored by City of San Marcos Public Services, the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD), Hays County and Home Instead Senior Care.



New veterans task force hopes to expand services

Hays County Commissioners have formed a veterans task force to evaluate the needs of county veterans and determine what additional services to provide. The main feature in the county’s present service menu for veterans is a bus taking them to a Veterans Administration (VA) hospital in San Antonio twice a week. Members of the task force say veterans have other needs, too.



City invites bids for funding human services funds

The City of San Marcos is now accepting human service agency applications for funding from the city. The applications are available from the Finance Department in the Municipal Building, 630 East Hopkins Street. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 5 at the finance department.
