The Texas State football team began spring drills Monday as they gun for their third straight winning season under head coach Brad Wright. The Bobcats will return six offensive starters, another eight on defense and three kickers. The Maroon-Gold Spring Game is scheduled for March 20.

How does a player win Offensive Player of the Year in his conference, yet wind up honorable mention on the all-conference team? It can only happen in the quarterback-heavy Southland Conference, where Texas State quarterback Bradley George was named Offensive Player of the Year Tuesday, only for two other quarterbacks to share the Player of the Year Award.

A football season ended at Texas State as one hasn’t ended around here in a while. The Bobcats aren’t going to the playoffs after their 28-20 win Saturday against Sam Houston State at Bobcat Stadium, but neither are they mopping their brows over the end to a dismal story.

The Texas State Bobcats lost a hard-fought game to McNeese State, 30-27, at Bobcat Stadium Saturday night, all but ending their hopes to win the Southland Conference and advance to the NCAA playoffs.

The Texas State football team will continue its grind towards the Southland Conference Championship Saturday night at Central Arkansas (6 p.m.). The Bobcats have won three straight games.

The Texas State defense shut down Stephen F. Austin’s prolific offense, while Texas State quarterback Bradley George threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns Saturday afternoon, leading the Bobcats to an unquestionable 28-7 win against Stephen F. Austin at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats, SFA, McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana now are in a four-way tie for first place in the Southland Conference.

Texas State blew a 24-point lead in the fourth quarter on its home field Saturday, losing to Southeastern Louisiana, 51-50, in overtime in the Southland Conference opener for both teams. The Bobcats fall to 2-3 overall with their second straight loss.

Texas State’s football team was unable to avenge last year’s loss to Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds hung up a 38-16 win on their home field in Cedar City, UT.

The Texas State Bobcats are 0-3 in Cedar City, UT, and haven’t beaten Southern Utah since 2005. Then, there was that Southern Utah game at Bobcat Stadium, which the Bobcats lost, 34-20. The Bobcats remember.

Texas State quarterback Bradley George set the school’s all-time passing yardage record Saturday night as the Bobcats trounced Texas Southern, 52-18, at Bobcat Stadium. Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to Southern Utah next Saturday.
