DA’s office cleared in Shipman case

A state district court has found the Hays County District Attorney’s office free of impropriety in the case involving Shawn Nathan Shipman after a Writ of Habeas Corpus was denied in July and Shipman subsequently entered a guilty plea on Aug. 14.



Shipman writ denied, new trial to proceed

The convoluted case of Shawn Nathan Shipman took another turn last week, when District Judge James F. Clawson Jr. denied Shipman’s Writ of Habeas Corpus. As a result, Shipman’s retrial will take place later this month. Shipman was granted a retrial after an assistant Hays County District Attorney alleged improprieties in his prosecution earlier this year.



DA controversy possibly linked to traffic stop

Visiting District Judge James F. Clawson Jr. granted Shawn Nathan Shipman a new trial Monday after issues regarding his arrest and conviction on narcotics charges were called into question by a Hays County assistant district attorney. In a hearing on the Shipman case a year ago, police officers in the original arrest said there was no search warrant to search Shipman’s vehicle.
