The Hays High School boys basketball team fell short in its attempt to make the playoffs for the first time in ten years, losing at arch rival Lehman, 51-45, Tuesday night.
The District 17-4A boys high school basketball season will end Tuesday night with three key games. At stake is the first playoff berth for Hays since 2000, along with bid for second place by San Marcos, which travels to powerful Dell Valle.
San Marcos already knows it’s in the high school boys basketball playoffs with one game left in its regular season. Meanwhile, Hays and Lehman are both fighting for the final playoff spot in District 17-4A, and they won’t both make it.
The Hays Rebels finished tied for the girls high school basketball championship in District 17-4A, but lost a coin flip with co-champ Del Valle and will go to College Station next Tuesday to begin the playoffs against Magnolia West. Lehman and San Marcos both finished short of the playoffs in that district.

With its 70-47 win at home against Anderson Tuesday night, the San Marcos High School girls basketball team is 4-3.
