Williams suspends ‘just a dog’ officer

San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams has suspended the officer who brought national attention to the city in August 2008 after telling a couple rushing their dying poodle to a veternarian that their pet was “just a dog” during a traffic stop. Williams suspended Officer Paul Stephens last month, citing a pattern of dishonest behavior after an incident at Dillinger’s on the courthouse square.


Downtown businesses wary of Springtown deal

The San Marcos Downtown Association held an emergency meeting Friday morning to discuss the implications of a pending series of interest-free long term loans equaling $5 million to developers seeking to turn Springtown Center into a multi-purpose entertainment complex.
