Hays County Judge Liz Sumter (D-Wimberley) said the commissioners court faces tough questions as it considers expensive projects in a struggling economy.



County passes corner to city in King observance

Hays County formally passed a corner at Lyndon Baines Johnson Drive and Martin Luther King Drive to the City of San Marcos Monday during Martin Luther King Day ceremonies. The corner will be the site of a monument remembering the two civil rights figures.



San Marcos schedules events for MLK Day

Martin Luther King Day will be recognized in San Marcos with a series of events starting at 11 a.m. Monday on the steps of the Hays County Courthouse. The morning courthouse program will feature proclamations by San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz and Hays County Judge Liz Sumter.



MLK Day proclaimed at City Hall

San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz recently presented a proclamation this week declaring Jan. 18 as “Martin Luther King Day” in San Marcos, in remembrance of the visionary civil rights leader. On hand for the proceedings was Dunbar Heritage Association founder and past “Spirit of San Marcos” award winner Harvey Miller.

Veterans’ Day parade keys festivities

The Veterans’ Day Parade in downtown San Marcos Saturday morning brought out a good crowd, all the way from the biscuits and gravy breakfast on the courthouse lawn through the morning parade down Hopkins Street.



County to provide night parking for city

Hays County Commissioners will allow the City of San Marcos to use the parking inlets on the Hopkins Street side of the Hays County Courthouse during night hours, despite the objections of County Judge Liz Sumter, whose parking space is located in one of the inlets.
