Smith gets award, crowd at video screening

Long-time Hays County resident Gwen Smith received the Spirit of San Marcos Award from San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz after the screening of her interview on “Voices of Hays County” recently at the Price Seniors Center.

One more step towards jail restoration

Having acquired additional funding, Hays County officials are poised to proceed with restorations to one of its old jails, a 19th century, two-story limestone structure nestled in the Historic Dunbar District a few blocks from the courthouse square in downtown San Marcos. The Hays County Commissioners Court accepted a $25,000 grant Tuesday for the jail’s restoration from the Texas Historical Commission (THC), a state agency headquartered in Austin.



HCHC brings breakfast to HCSO

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch Hays County law enforcement officers to give them some breakfast. That’s just what the Hays County Historical Commision did.



HCHC donates DVDs to San Marcos Schools

The Hays County Historical Commission recently donated its recently released documentary historical DVDs to San Marcos school libraries.



Jack C. Hays movie gets one more free screening

Popular demand to see “Captain Jack,” the film documenting the life of Jack C. Hays done by the Hays County Historical Commission, has led to a second screening of the movie at Dripping Springs City Hall.



Old Hays County jail in for restoration

The old Hays County Jail in San Marcos is soon to be restored as a museum.
