Hays County will provide free immunizations to Guadalupe County residents at a health fair next week, saying it’s a public health benefit for Hays County residents. A Guadalupe County commissioner said Guadalupe officials were unaware of the initiative.

The owners of Windemere Ranch property say they’re going ahead with their plans for development, but Hays County could have designs on the land for its regional habitat conservation plan to protect the golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo.

Hays County could lose a seat on the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), now that the regional planning board has agreed to include Bastrop and Caldwell Counties.

San Marcos surgeon Bert Cobb took the lion’s share of the Republican primary vote against Kyle business owner Peggy Jones Tuesday to claim his nomination for Hays County judge. Surviving that Olympics, Cobb said he is preparing for another in November.

Hays County Sheriff Tommy Ratliff kept his losses low in Buda and was marginally favored across the county, winning the Democratic nomination to fill the rest of the term left unexpired when the late Sheriff Allen Bridges died in December 2008.

After slightly more than three years of battling on the Hays County Commissioners Court, it came down to Tuesday’s vote between County Judge Liz Sumter and Precinct 2 Commissioner Jeff Barton for the Democratic county judge nomination. After Barton won, he said he had “a great conversation” with Sumter.

Patrick Rose took 79.7 percent of the vote against challenger Andrew Backus in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for his fifth straight nomination for his state representative seat.

Hays CISD Trustee Mark Jones had no trouble dispatching former Kyle Mayor Mike Gonzalez in the Republican primary for Hays County Precinct 2 Commissioner Tuesday. Jones now will prepare to face former Kyle Councilmember Ray Bryant in the general election.

Hays County Court at Law No. 1 Judge Anna Martinez Boling held off a Democratic primary challenge Tuesday from Hays County Assistant District Attorney David Mendoza, taking 63.7 percent of the vote. Boling will face Republican Robert Updegrove in November.

A newly composed Kyle City Council will meet for the first time Wednesday night. One item on the agenda could be resolved with City Manager Tom Mattis being moved from the council dais.
