Rio Vista groundbreaking set for Saturday

The two-year Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Improvement Project will kick off with a groundbreaking ceremony at the San Marcos Nature Center Saturday at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend.



Warrant roundup to begin March 6

The San Marcos Police Department, the San Marcos Marshal’s Office and 200 other law enforcement agencies are participating in a warrant roundup starting on March 6. Persons with outstanding warrants are encouraged to take up their business with the municipal court in order to avoid arrest during the roundup.



Council to take another crack at Springtown incentives

After about six months of dormancy, a city incentive deal involving Springtown Center is back on the table at Tuesday night’s San Marcos City Council meeting. Two such incentive proposals last summer encountered public opposition before being abandoned. Now, Lamy-Springfield is in foreclosure for two parcels of the Springtown property.



City enters last phase of Rio Vista work

The City of San Marcos capital improvements department is soon to embark on improvements for the Rio Vista neighborhood, which will include new waterlines, new wastewater lines, storm drains, streets, curbs and sidewalks.



City announces road closures for next week

San Marcos officials have announced road and street projects affecting traffic in town next week, including several involving Hopkins Street and the downtown square. Wednesday, Feb. 3, will include numerous such projects through the east side of town for repairs on the Union Pacific Rail Road tracks.



City council passes new taxicab ordinance

The phrase “flag a taxi” may now enter the lexicon of downtown San Marcos revelers, as it is now legal for cabs to patrol. This week, the San Marcos City Council unanimously revised the city code to allow taxicab patrolling, regulate driver and passenger conduct, set fares and city fees, and add provisions regulating pedicabs.

Hopkins Street restriping postponed

A planned closure of Hopkins Street between Comanche Street and LBJ Drive for a restriping project Monday night was postponed due to cold temperatures.



Train blocks downtown traffic

A train stopped on the tracks in the heart of San Marcos, wreaking havoc on rush-hour traffic for more than an hour Friday afternoon. San Marcos police said the train was having brake issues and an emergency stop was required to check them.
