Williams suspends ‘just a dog’ officer

San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams has suspended the officer who brought national attention to the city in August 2008 after telling a couple rushing their dying poodle to a veternarian that their pet was “just a dog” during a traffic stop. Williams suspended Officer Paul Stephens last month, citing a pattern of dishonest behavior after an incident at Dillinger’s on the courthouse square.

The owner of a San Marcos transmission store has been charged with arson in the destruction by fire of his own business.

San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) Officer Candice Brinkkoeter won the Police Medal of Honor at an awards ceremony earlier this month. Brinkkoeter crawled into a burning vehicle in April 2008 and pulled a man to safety. Immediately afterward, the car was totally engulfed in flames.
