County passes corner to city in King observance

Hays County formally passed a corner at Lyndon Baines Johnson Drive and Martin Luther King Drive to the City of San Marcos Monday during Martin Luther King Day ceremonies. The corner will be the site of a monument remembering the two civil rights figures.

When Bowie Elementary School completed its Great Turkey Race for the Hays County Food Bank, the school’s students had raised $628 to give Thanksgiving meals to families in Hays County. It is enough to feed 31 families for Turkey Day.

Shipman writ denied, new trial to proceed

The convoluted case of Shawn Nathan Shipman took another turn last week, when District Judge James F. Clawson Jr. denied Shipman’s Writ of Habeas Corpus. As a result, Shipman’s retrial will take place later this month. Shipman was granted a retrial after an assistant Hays County District Attorney alleged improprieties in his prosecution earlier this year.



Child killer gets life

Richard Perez, Jr., a 22-year-old San Marcos man, was sentenced to life in prison after a Hays County jury found him guilty in the death of his girlfriend’s six-month-old son.



No school until Tuesday for San Marcos CISD

Between a professional development day, a weekend and a national holiday, San Marcos CISD students are out of school for the next four days.
