Shami calls Perry and White ‘proven failures’

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Farouk Shami came to San Marcos last week, calling Governor Rick White and former Houston Mayor Bill White “proven failures” as the primary election approaches on March 2.



Rose endorses Barton in county judge primary

State Representative Patrick Rose (D-Dripping Springs) said Saturday that he is endorsing Hays County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jeff Barton (D-Kyle) in a party primary race against incumbent Hays County Judge Liz Sumter (D-Wimberley). Rose said Barton “is more able to unite the (commissioners) court,” the divisions of which precipitated the primary struggle.



Rose campaigns against primary challenge

When Patrick Rose first ran for the state legislature in 2002, he was 23, not long out of Princeton and unsure if he would win the office, let alone how long he would keep it. Today, Rose (D-Dripping Springs), 31, is a four-term representative who says that to “get anything done” in the legislature “you need seniority, and I would like to stay in this office for the next six, eight, 10, 12 years.”



Friedman speaks to Texas State Democrats

Agriculture Commissioner candidate Kinky Friedman spoke at the Texas State College Democrats’ first meeting of the spring semester Wednesday only to be interrupted by some unresolved drama within the organization. As Kinky began his speech to the Democrats, Brian Hannah, who in recent months has been a community activist, rose up, apologetically stole the stage from Kinky and began reading a sheet of paper aloud saying that the College Democrats “are not a credible” organization.



Medina speaks at Texas State

The Republican primary race for Governor of Texas made a quick stop, albeit a quiet stop, last Thursday at Texas State, where candidate Debra Medina (R-Wharton) spoke for state sovereignty, an end to property taxes and an end to illegal immigration.
