City recognizes disaster efforts

San Marcos officials recently recognized Harvey Miller and the earthquake relief efforts that have been undertaken by some San Marcos residents.

City officials and local celebrities are really going to clean up San Marcos Saturday, one car at a time at Conley Car Wash & Express Lube. It’s all to benefit the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center. Tipping is encouraged.



Rio Vista project breaks ground

San Marcos officials broke ground on Rio Vista Terrace improvements with ten good shovels on March 6. The event was the official start of a $9.3 million project that will provide new waterlines, wastewater lines, storm drains, sidewalk, curbs, gutters and streets to the neighborhood in the next two years.



Competition spotlights quality for local company

Employees at Philips/Wide Light recently had a competition that sported colorful team names and a quest for quality. The San Marcos City Council recently recognized company employees.



Education foundation honored

The San Marcos Education Foundation was recently recognized by the city for its ongoing efforts to improve educational opportunities for the city’s school children.



West Point nominee honored

San Marcos High School student Aidan Dietz was recently honored for his nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Dietz, a senior at SMHS, was nominated by U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett.



Villalpando added to census staff

New San Marcos Census Outreach Coordinator Marge Villalpando hopes to access many residents who may be missed or confused by the 2010 Census.



Reading program has well-known volunteers

The San Marcos CISD Child Development Center had some special guest readers recently who volunteered for the Reading Is Fundamental Community Leaders Reading Program. The kids, of course, loved the fire truck.

Rio Vista groundbreaking set for Saturday

The two-year Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Improvement Project will kick off with a groundbreaking ceremony at the San Marcos Nature Center Saturday at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
