Long-time Hays CISD volunteer Merideth Keller filed Monday morning to run for election to the school district’s board of trustees, while interim appointee Willie Tenorio filed to win approval from voters in the May election.

The Hays CISD Board of Trustees on Monday unanimously voted to appoint Willie Tenorio, Jr., to fill the unexpired term left vacant by Joe Muñoz, who resigned his Kyle-based District 2 when he moved to another area within the school district.

Former Kyle City Councilmember Todd Webster is among four candidates who have filed letters of intent to serve on the Hays CISD Board of Trustees for District 2, completing the term of Joe Muñoz, who resigned in September.

Hays CISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon presented a draft of the district’s strategic plan to Hays CISD Trustees last week as the school district transitions from its rural history to a more suburban future.

Hays CISD Trustees Secretary Joe Muñoz, the senior member of the school board, resigned his seat Monday night so that his family can move to a new home outside of his trustees district. Muñoz has served on the board for 10 years.

The Hays CISD trustees unanimously approved naming the library at Red Simon Middle School for Fernando Amaya, who was killed on Sept. 1, 2008, while riding his bicycle on SH 150.

Hays CISD named Michelle Chae principal of Red Simon Middle School, which opens in the fall. Simon Middle School is named after the San Marcos car dealer and founding president of the Hays CISD school board.
