ACC Mobile Go Center slated at library

The ACC Mobile Go Center will be at the San Marcos Public Library to assist questions about college and to help future students with the often intimidating application process.



Former Councilmember Earl Moseley dead at 48

Earl Moseley, well known at Texas State and around San Marcos, succumbed to pancreatic cancer early Thursday evening in San Antonio. Moseley served a term on the San Marcos City Council 10 years ago.



GOP Hays County judge candidates discuss issues

Republican Hays County judge candidates Bert Cobb and Peggy Jones spoke in depth with San Marcos Local News about the issues leading up to the March 2 primary election. The winner will take on the Democratic nominee, either Hays County Judge Liz Sumter or Precinct 2 Commissioner Jeff Barton, in the November election.



Two SMHS musicians honored by city

Two San Marcos High School musicians were recently honored by San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz and the city council. Katy Whitbeck and Dwaylan Applewhite are becoming pretty familiar names around town as they receive many well deserved honors.



Shami calls Perry and White ‘proven failures’

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Farouk Shami came to San Marcos last week, calling Governor Rick White and former Houston Mayor Bill White “proven failures” as the primary election approaches on March 2.



Boling, Mendoza debate in law judge primary

Hays County Court at Law No. 1 Judge Anna Martinez Boling and Hays County Assistant District Attorney David Mendoza debated last week at the San Marcos Area League of Women Voters debate. Boling and Martinez are competing for the Democratic nomination for the court at law seat in the March 2 primary.



Staples woman sentenced in smuggling case

A Staples woman was sentenced last week in a 2008 smuggling case that originated with a search of a San Marcos mobile home that turned up about two dozen aliens from Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico and Nicaragua. The aliens were being forcibly detained pending payment of smuggling fees by family and friends.



Rose campaigns against primary challenge

When Patrick Rose first ran for the state legislature in 2002, he was 23, not long out of Princeton and unsure if he would win the office, let alone how long he would keep it. Today, Rose (D-Dripping Springs), 31, is a four-term representative who says that to “get anything done” in the legislature “you need seniority, and I would like to stay in this office for the next six, eight, 10, 12 years.”



Rattlers move up in new UIL alignment

The new University Interscholastic League (UIL) alignment for 2010-2012 returns San Marcos to Class 5A, while Hays, Lehman and Wimberley are brought closer to home.
