P&Z to bring back Buie question in April

Still waiting on a geological report by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission has postponed consideration of a mixed-use plan for the Buie tract until April.



San Marcian runs for state school board

San Marcos resident and Texas State professor Rebecca Bell-Metereau said the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) is missing the point about education, so she’s running for a seat on the board.



Early voting runs until Dec. 11

Early voting began Monday in the run-off election for a San Marcos City Council seat. The early voting period will run through Dec. 11 as voters decide between Ryan Thomason and Lisa Marie Coppoletta for the last seat on the council.



Armed Forces center going up in San Marcos

Houston-based construction firm Satterfield & Pontikes has begun building a United States military complex on 19 acres on the south side of Clovis Barker Road in San Marcos, less than a mile from Interstate-35. The San Marcos Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC), one of 17 planned for Texas, will be a 600-member training facility for two United States Army Reserve units and four Texas National Guard units.



Candidates come and go at filing last call

The filing deadline for San Marcos city council candidacy came and went Wednesday, and so did some of the candidates. Switches, adds and drops characterized a tumultuous last call, which ended in two races each with at least three candidates, something of a rarity by the recent standard in San Marcos.



San Marcos P&Z keeps AA house open

Against advice from city staff, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) granted a conditional use permit allowing a house to stay open for regular and frequent Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings.



Carma project on hold at P&Z

A number of rezoning requests before the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission concerning a 3,400-home development are on hold while Carma Texas negotiates issues related to a development agreement with the city council.
