Texas State MFA students win awards

Graduate students from Texas State’s Communication Design Program recently competed in the Flux 09 Student Design Competiton and received some accolades.



Conley Car Wash & Express Lube to have grand opening

Conley Car Wash, 1200 Thorpe Lane, will celebrate the grand opening of the Conley Express Lube Center adjacent to the car wash Saturday. Ten percent of all proceeds will go to the San Marcos Education Foundation (SMEF).

In November, Heldenfels Enterprises, Inc. (HEI), with plants in San Marcos and Corpus Christi, will celebrate its 100th year of business. Heldenfels produces and installs precast/prestressed concrete for all types of structures.



Hazardous waste disposal this weekend

This weekend marks another hazardous waste disposal day for Hays County residents. In addition to the “drive though” hazardous waste collection at San Marcos City Hall, 630 East Hopkins Street, the Hays County Precinct 4 Recycling Center at 20290 FM 150 will take unwanted tires.



Mayor honors youth advocate, proclaims power week

Police Officer Danny Arrendondo was recognized as the Youth Advocate of the Month. Mayor Susan Narvaiz also proclaimed “Public Power Week.”



LBJ Museum changes hours of operation

Starting Thursday, the Lyndon B. Johnson Museum of San Marcos is changing its hours of operation. The museum will now be open from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m.-5 p.m on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.



Big Band Bash swingin’ at Price Senior Center

The Price Senior Center, 222 West San Antonio Street in San Marcos, is having a Big Band Bash luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, featuring an hour of big screen big band music.



SMHS Cheerleaders “Cheer for change”

The San Marcos High School Striking Rattler Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleaders cheered for change on Oct. 4 at the San Marcos Wal-Mart.

CTMC gala honors staff and raises funds

The 17th Annual Stars of Texas Gala, Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) yearly benefit event, entertained a record 502 attendees on the evening of Oct. 11 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center. The event, which raised funds for CTMC’s new Women’s Center, included gourmet dining, a silent auction and music from country music star Lee Ann Womack.
