The San Marcos City Council talked about directing the staff to draft an ordinance limiting individual campaign contributions Tuesday night, then decided in a deeply split vote to drop the matter. The discussion at times turned personal for San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz, who raised $100,000 for her successful 2008 re-election campaign. At moments, the council’s drift appeared headed for a 4-3 vote to draft an ordinance, but the council instead voted 4-3 against the initiative.

Homebuilder and former Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commissioner Ryan Thomason was officially sworn in as a San Marcos City Councilmember Wednesday after a special council meeting to canvass the vote.

Election Day in San Marcos ended with incumbent City Councilmember John Thomaides securing his third term by a resounding margin, while the results in a three-way council race with no incumbent remain to be developed in the next few days.

Tuesday is Election Day in San Marcos and throughout Hays County, though this off off-year ballot is one of the lightest in the election cycle. However, the action in San Marcos will involve two city council races. We have voting locations and a sample ballot.
