A train stopped on the tracks in the heart of San Marcos, wreaking havoc on rush-hour traffic for more than an hour Friday afternoon. San Marcos police said the train was having brake issues and an emergency stop was required to check them.



Sights and Sounds opens Thursday

There’s a chill in the wintery air and more than just a bit of excitement, too, as the 23rd Annual Sights and Sounds of Christmas gets ready to open today at 5:30 p.m.

The annual Sites and Sounds Gala, benefiting the 23rd annual festival, will be an evening in black and white, with a silent auction and more. Reservations are required.



‘Sights and Sounds’ to charge admission

Like so many places across the country, San Marcos is facing the budget crunch as the yearly “Sights and Sounds of Christmas” approaches. The non-profit organization funding the event will charge a nominal admission fee this year for the first time in the event’s history.
