The Hays CISD dedication ceremonies for the Fernando Amaya Memorial Library at Red Simon Middle School (SMS) will be at 6 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public.
Red Simon, long-time San Marcos car dealer and benefactor of public education in Buda and Kyle, will be honored Friday morning when Hays CISD dedicates D.J. “Red” Simon Middle School in his name. Simon spent 17 years as a school board member in the Kyle ISD and Hays CISD, for whom he was the founding board president. Simon also owned Red Simon Ford in San Marcos for 36 years before selling it this March.
The Hays CISD trustees unanimously approved naming the library at Red Simon Middle School for Fernando Amaya, who was killed on Sept. 1, 2008, while riding his bicycle on SH 150.
