Local organizers of a new petition drive to place San Marcos CISD into the Austin Community College (ACC) District say lingering anger over a 2006 ACC initiative is among their biggest challenges.



Three San Marcos schools recognized for performance

The Division of NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Program Coordination at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently selected three San Marcos CISD elementary campuses for distinguished academic performance. Bowie, Crockett and De Zavala Elementary Schools each received the honor.



SMHS student bound for NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA) recently selected San Marcos High School junior Ty Stonecipher to participate in its High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) program. Stonecipher was nominated for the program by Texas State Representative Patrick Rose.



Student Government Day revived

The San Marcos Student Government Day participants might just give city officials a run for their money as they tackle city issues Friday from City Hall, the school district’s central office, and the Hays County Commissioners Court.



Hays CISD tabs Tenorio

The Hays CISD Board of Trustees on Monday unanimously voted to appoint Willie Tenorio, Jr., to fill the unexpired term left vacant by Joe Muñoz, who resigned his Kyle-based District 2 when he moved to another area within the school district.



Hays CISD receives 24 GPAs

Hays CISD schools have been awarded 24 Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPAs)based on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) performance ratings. Thirteen of the eighteen campuses were given one or more GPAs.



San Marcos CISD receives TEA recognition

San Marcos CISD (SMCISD) was given a total of fifteen Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPAs) in the updated state accountablility reports, released on Nov. 4 by the Texas Education Agency (TEA.) The district received 12 GPAs in 2008 and six in 2007.



San Marcos CISD falls to ‘unacceptable’

Because San Marcos CISD came up one-half of a point short of a 75-percent graduation rate among its economically disadvantaged students in the Class of 2008, the school district fell to “academically unacceptable” in statewide school accountability ratings released last week.



Bowie principal given distinguished preformance award

Bowie Elementary School Principal Karen McGowan was awarded the Title I, Part A Distinguished Performance Award on June 15.

Bowie Elementary School has been honored by the Texas Education Agency for sustained outstanding performance.
