Visiting students made honorary citizens

Students visiting Texas State from Germany were recently made honorary citizens of San Marcos by a city council proclamation. The students are from Hannover, which holds the second largest Oktoberfest in the world.



Texas State’s O’Brien wins Katherine Anne Porter Award

Tim O’Brien, who holds the Endowed Chair in Creative Writing at Texas State, has recently been honored with the 2010 Katherine Anne Porter Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.



Philosophy dialogue to take up evolution, identity

Three Texas State philosophers will be joined by professors from six other university departments, along with academics from the University of Chicago and Hofstra University as Texas State’s Philosophy Dialogue Series takes up evolution and identity for the next two weeks.



Spanish lecture slated at Texas State

On March 16, a lecture on Latin American and Spanish events that affected Mexico’s War of Independence will be given by noted historian María Victoria López-Cordón Cortezo in Centennial Hall G02 at 5 p.m. The lecture, “Los representantes de la América hispana en las Cortes de Cádiz de 1812,” will be given in Spanish.



City moves Sessom work up to this week

Saying the spring break is the perfect time to deal with the intersection of Sessom Drive and LBJ Drive, city officials moved drainage and pavement work on the intersection up to this week.

Activities abound at library for spring break

Children’s theater workshop slated for March 20

The Texas State student branch of the Association for Childhood International is holiding it’s popular yearly creative dramatic workshop for children aged 6-10 on March 20.



Rose trounces Democratic primary challenger

Patrick Rose took 79.7 percent of the vote against challenger Andrew Backus in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for his fifth straight nomination for his state representative seat.



City clears well of E. coli

San Marcos water officials have cleared a city well of E. coli. The well will be back in operation Wednesday. City officials found E. coli in the well on Feb. 26 and shut the well down.
