Rebels fall, face losing season

The Hays Rebels not only missed their chance to win District 17-4A Friday night, but they also clinched their first regular season with a losing record since 1985. The Rebels lost, 27-21, in overtime at Del Valle, which clinched its first district championship since 1967.



Hays, Del Valle to meet for district title

The Hays Rebels go to Del Valle Friday night with the winner in line to clinch the District 17-4A high school football championship. Hays has won the last two meetings with Del Valle, each time under improbable circumstances.



Lehman loses, but looks playoff worthy

The Hays Rebels clinched a high school football playoff berth Friday night, while Lehman looked just about ready. Meanwhile, Wimberley lost a close game at Liberty Hill, Dripping Springs lost for the seventh straight time and the San Marcos Baptist Academy ended a three-game losing streak.



Rattlers make point, miss points

San Marcos came within one two-point conversion of pulling off an improbable win Friday night at Alamo Heights. Also, Hays improved to 2-0 in District 17-4A, while Dripping Springs and San Marcos Baptist Academy ran their losing streaks to six and three games, respectively.



Hays tries for back-to-back wins

The Hays Rebels will try for their second win in a row Friday night at Lockhart. After starting the season with five straight losses, a win Friday would make Hays 2-0 in District 17-4A. Also Friday night, Dripping Springs will try to break a five-game losing streak against Lampasas, the San Marcos Baptist Academy will play Victoria St. Joseph, and Wimberley is taking a bye week.



Rebels win, Lobos lose to start District 17-4A

The Hays Rebels began the District 17-4A season with their first win of the year Friday night, while a Lehman loss Friday means the Lobos are still looking for their first district win after 20 tries. Meanwhile, Wimberley solidified its position in District 8-3A, Dripping Springs lost for the fifth straight time and San Marcos Baptist Academy dropped its district opener late.



Hays CISD teams start district from different directons

The two Hays CISD football teams each open their District 17-4A seasons Friday night, each coming from a different direction and each surprisingly situated. Lehman enters the district season 4-1 for the first time ever, while the Rebels are 0-5 for the first time since 1970.



Rebels try to avoid 0-2 start

Hays football coach Bob Shelton said quarterback Sam Breyfogle should be back at full speed as the Rebels try to evade their first 0-2 start since 1999 when they play Anderson Thursday (7 p.m.) at House Park in Austin.



Bastrop blows past Rebels, 34-14

Unable to contain Bastrop quarterback Josiah Monroe, the Hays Rebels took a disappointing 34-14 loss to Bastrop in their high school football opener Friday night.



Rebels to start season short-handed

The Hays Rebels haven’t even played a game yet, and they already need a win badly. They’ll have their first chance Friday night at Bob Shelton Stadium against Bastrop.
