City announces road work for week

The City of San Marcos has announced road projects that will affect traffic in town for the next week. Among the streets involved in the projects are Hopkins Street, Sessom Drive, Craddock Avenue and Wonder World Drive.



Sessom Drive improvements to begin Thursday

Motorists be warned, the next few months will see Sessoms Drive in various states of repair. The reward for all the hassle figures to be an improved driving and walking experience.



Slowly, city approaches downtown streetscaping

A downtown San Marcos streetscaping project, which still needs to be fully funded, would begin in combination with a drainage project on Hutchison Street and North LBJ Drive. The project will reduce parking spaces while widening and beautifying sidewalks.



Drainage plan could be downtown sneak peek

No one knows when the city’s downtown master plan will become reality, but a drainage project for parts of LBJ Drive, Hutchison Street and University Drive will force a sneak peak at the next iteration of downtown San Marcos.



Downed pole knocks out downtown power

City emergency crews restored power to downtown San Marcos Tuesday night after the central portion of the city was without electricity for about 45 minutes. City officials said a car struck an electric pole, pitching the city into darkness, shutting down businesses and causing hazards on the streets.



University says growth has limit

As San Marcos and Texas State have each grown to the point at which one can’t grow without constraining the other, the university’s master plan has set limits on growth. Above is shown the university campus.



Charles Austin Drive to close for lighting

Much of Charles Austin Drive will close from Friday until next Tuesday so crews can install new stadium lighting at Texas State’s baseball/softball complex.
